I still remember the smell of the fixer, and I'm sometimes nostalgic for
it. However, I remember the gigantic red itching hives crawling up my
arms even better, and the sudden gushing nosebleeds that I started
having. Somewhere along the way, after processing film and prints for
years, I became hypersensitive to the chemicals - tragic for a printer
who used to use fingers and my whole hand as part of local development
adjustments. I had to quit photography for a decade until digital gave
it back to me.
