Hey Guy...
Doesn't sound like "small" parts will be the problems. 8o)
Have you thought about making it round instead of square? There may be fiber
shipping containers available.
Also, circular walls don't have all those pesky joins to crack & leak.
So next.. the tripod...8o)
with a circular one, maybe even the rectangular kind, you could use an old
ambulance gurney. It collapses down, has steerable wheels & is designed to
deal with weight.
definitely sounds like fun.

Subject: Re: [pinhole-discussion] Making a portable 4x8 feet pinhole camera
This is all very helpful.
I had thought of constructing individual 4x8 backs as a convenient way of
doing multiple pictures from a single location.
But I couldn't design something that would be workable.
However, having read Gordon's and Thom's comments, I'm getting to think it
might be do-able.
This would be rally nice.
In practice, I think the camera will start as extremely simple and then
improvements (eg paper-roll back) will be added as I go along.
Obviously, I will need to work out something with the city administration so
that I have authorizations to move around / set camp with this kind of
contraption.
I usually carry a small 4x6" portfolio album of my work when I trot around
with my 20x24" pinhole camera so that I can show what's going on to anyone
who might be concerned about the contraption.
As regard the 4x8 feet camera, I might paint something on it that it looks
like a really old vintage camera... !
Obviously, I'll have my photo bag and tripods etc...
Still, it's something I want to think about.
One thing I'm very much aware is that I don't know much about existing
hardware, smallware, small parts, etc,,, that could make my construction
easier.
Gordon's reference to clamps is very good. There are several suppliers of
hard/small-ware whose catalog I should download and read.
This is a really exciting project. I'm meeting with a good friend on
Wednesday who will do much of the woodworking. I'm sure he'll have some
good practical suggestions.
I'll keep the list posted.
Best,
Guy
