While this wouldn't solve having something to sell off the shelf, the
Populist

http://idea.uwosh.edu/nick/populist.pdf

is a very easy and fun design for working with kids on building and
using a pinhole camera. I've done a few with nieces and nephews - the
only problem I have with it is that the completed cameras that the kids
make always come out looking better than mine. But even a klutz like me
can make a workable, pocket sized camera from the instructions.

It has a big advantage in that it uses 35mm film, easy to find and
process. You can also use the basic design as a way to encourage
experimentation - with a little thinking, you can change the design to
be panoramic, or half frame.

I actually print the pattern directly onto shirt cardboard, the kind
that comes from the dry cleaner.
