Ellis, I can understand how it might be confusing. Maybe I can
summarize. Although many people use attachments in email in a
photography heavy forum like this list, it's more efficient for all
involved to upload a photo once to a website (Flickr or any other site
of your choosing) and include a link to it and only the interested
parties need go to visit the photo. The efficiencies come on several
fronts: download speeds are increased by reducing message sizes,
especially for those on dial-up; space requirements are vastly reduced
as some people have a large local archive of the list ( I think I have
most of the last 7 years of messages on my local hard drive) which would
be more difficult with attachments increasing the size of messages;
searching is far simple and more efficient when it's text only; and
finally by forcing people to think whether or not they want to go
through the trouble of uploading and including a link it creates a small
barrier of effort which must be overcome - this is a good thing because
I think it forces people to think a little more before they share an
image thereby raising the quality of what is shared.

Any person who goes through the trouble to take/make pictures by
alternative methods using pinholes is obviously a little anachronistic
and quirky, and this list and community are living proof of that. I took
no offense at your suggestion. happy pinhole'n...
