as a dedicated lurker - pinhole is taking a backseat for me right now
because I'm in grad school getting an MBA and working full-time plus I'm
a dad now. So where I might have tried out some 8x10 paper negatives with
my Kodak 2D or tweaked some pinholes for my D200, I'm now cranking away
reading case studies, doing spreadsheets and changing daipers. I like the
list because it comes in without having to go dig. I also like the mix,
whereas the forums can be isolated in their focus. It's not that I don't
visit but....I like it here. Things wax and wane and having been on the
list for at least 6 years now I'm sure an upswing in interest will drive
an increase in activity soon. Thanks Everyone.

Thank you for letting me know that some of you are still out there!
I am sorry I am such a dinosaur but it has been hard for me to make the switch
to F295[which I do visit and belong]. It [Forum style] just isn't as
intuitive for my old mind. But I will have to try to get better I guess.
I agree with Taco that the pictures are a benefit along with the discussion at
F295. I want to thank Eric too for his work on the list and all in the past
who did so much. It was so good to see a discussion start up again. You gave
me hope. Thank you to everyone who has read and offer advice and
encouragement to pinhole photographers world wide.
One last question, What will happen to the Holiday Swap and other activities?
How will the rest of us find out about them? They have been a true joy to me
with so many wonderful images exchanged.
Keep on Pinholing!

Quote Earl: "I think that this is to be celebrated both in images and in
words."
And that's the problem with this spitbite forum: Only words (interesting
enough) but no images :-[
By the way, Earl: First of all congratulations and thanks that you
brought some time ago a new member to f295, but the last time she's
quite quit. Did Chrissy lost interest?

To everyone who has contributed to this list over the years:
Thank you.
This was the first resource that I found to help me get started in pinhole
photography. I asked you guys some questions, and you answered me
enthusiastically. When f295 started, I joined in enthusiastically. For me, the
f295 forum came to replace this list in my pinhole world. I like to see activity
here, but I will not miss its absence like I would miss the absence of f295.
As for the health of pinhole and alt-process photography in general, I agree
with Katherine - I think that interest is high, and that some of the most
interesting photography being done fits into one of these categories. Hand made
photography will never be for everyone, and the students at Andy's seminars will
ebb and flow. But I think that photography has been freed from the conventions
of criticism and from the technology of the factory. I think that this is to be
celebrated both in images and in words.
Thank you to Eric for hosting this list, and to all of you for contributing to
it.
Now go out there and shoot some film!

Hi Chuck,
Has everyone given up on the discussion list?
Funny you should ask. This is something I have been thinking about
quite a lot of late.
Certainly someone will be along very soon to tell you that this
list is not the place where things are happening, and that all the
action is at the f295 web forum. The bulk of the posts to this
list over the past year (or two) have been to that effect.
For those of you who've missed it, or recently joined:
http://www.f295.com/
I think the continued existence of the pinhole-discussion list only
serves to fragment whatever pinhole photography discussion may be
taking place on the Internet, and I propose that we shut this list
off, effective end-of-day August 31st.
The archives will remain in place indefinitely at spitbite.org.
If someone would like to take over the list--and by that I mean
finding a new hosting service, setting up the software, moving the
archive, the whole deal--please contact me either on or off list.
But I'll repeat myself: I think the best thing to do to further
pinhole photography on the Internet is to close down this list and
direct everyone to where there's some vitality to the conversation.
(Like you, Chuck, I am old school, favoring email discussion over
forums, but times change.)
