A web forum is not a replacement for a mailing list.

I disagree that this lists fragments the community. Hardly anyone
posts here anymore, so who is fragmented away from the rest of the
community?

To my eye the f295 forums are fragmented. There are separate forums
for color and B&W for each of pinhole, and zone plate, plus a
alternative process forum (What was wrong with the existing
alt-photo-process-l list?), and camera making, etc.

If you are looking for a new place to host the list, freelists.org is
a nice hosting site. There are several photo related lists there
already.
