Jack,
Thank you for providing information on the origins of Giclee.
I apologize if you felt I was targeting you or your colleagues who have elevated digital prints to a true art, as charlatans, because that was certainly not my intent. I have nothing but the greatest admiration for the processes you have been instrumental in. I had the privilege of installing and exhibit with 12 stunning IRIS prints from Nash Editions earlier this year. They were a sensual treat to behold.
Working in the trenches of the art world, I am overly exposed to numerous bastardization labeled giclee. These pieces do not involve quality or permanence. Some, though well done, are marketed rather in the fashion of the marketing of Dali prints during the 80s.
With the phenomenal innovations in the inkjet field, I hope the issue of inkjetoutput will be mute within a few years. I would hope there won’t be such a thing as poor output model within the next three years.
Perhaps as the originator, you would comment on the acceptable usages.
Sincerely,
Michael Atwell “Chrome Dome”
