there seems to be a stereo shutter from the wetplate days on Ebay that
follows your philosophy... good ideas never seem to die & always seem to get
re-discovered...

George,
I make the shutters myself.
The black disk is a sandwich of several layers of model airplane plywood.
The aluminum or brass sheet of the shutter itself slides back and forth
through a slot built in to this sandwich when the layers are stacked up.
The shutter return springs are taken from ball point click pens.
I have found them to be reliable and quite light-tight when closed.
