In a perfect world there would be standards that every browser followed the
same way. In the real world the gorilla of the browsers (Internet Explorer) is
also one of the worst at following the recommendations. Alas, this means that
testing a site in all of the different browsers is a requirement. The only
good thing about Microsoft realizing that they fell way behind in browser
technology and deciding to release Internet Explorer 7 is that it will not run
on Windows 2000. This means that many businesses still running on this
operating system (and there are a lot of them) will possibly switch to Firefox,
which is a considerably better option.
