I agree with George, and the majority; pinhole on the inside, though
there are reasons to put it on the outside, too. One reason that
has not been mentioned is that the paper (or whatever you're using
for your negative) can shift inside the canister over time and block
the pinhole. (A nice, black dot on your processed neg is evidence
that this has happened.) I've bent my brass sheets in such a way
that the paper can't slide back over the hole, though the way I've
done it leads to other problems (the brass casts a shadow onto the
negative sometimes).

I'd say: try it both ways, see what works best for you. Then post back
here!
