Thanks very much, Eric, for the references to the
threads about using flash with pinhole exposures. I
had a good laugh, at least. Somehow, my ten-flash idea
seemed too simple. The math suggests I'd need to fire
the flash 1,024 times to achieve what I had in mind!
Seems like a huge number. I suppose I should just
experiment. If I do and do it in any manner that is
repeatable, I'll post the results.
One thing people aren't considering (perhaps) is the
cumulative effect of the available light. During the
flash exposures, any ambient light would be
contributing to the exposure. I wonder how long it
would take me to actually fire a flash 1,024 times?
Given charge cycling times and changing batteries, you
might fire it ten times a minute? That's one hour and
forty minutes to achieve an exposure I calculate would
take 30 minutes using the available light! (Is this a
really excellent example of missing the forest for the
trees? I was hoping to SAVE time).
After 15 minutes, I'd have flashed 150 times, but the
available light would already have achieved half the
required exposure. Maybe this is why there is a big
gap between the theory and the results reported in the
thread you sent. I suppose you'd have to use ONLY
flash for the calculated number of flashes to make
sense.
For future reference, once in the link you sent, it
was very easy to read the threads. Where do you go to
search the archives, though? Can you post the
appropriate URL to initiate a search. Then I won't
have to bother people with questions like this. i can
just go search the archives. Thanks
Colin
