Eric, you are welcome to show my photo also, and thank you for the
kind words about it.
Chris, after reading the reports of the blizzard in the East, there's
no way anyone could think you're a wimp. It snowed here Friday, the
first good snow storm of the season, and stopped around midnite. On
Saturday morning, a friend and I drove up north to photograph the
world's largest ice fishing contest. http://www.icefishing.org/ He
brought an 8x10 view camera, I stuck with the Pinhole Blender. We
both agreed that the event was the largest gathering of uniformly
euphoric people we had ever met. Natually, the Blender started a lot
of conversations. At least a half-dozen people thought it was some
kind of sonar device for locating fish.
An example: a couple of guys stopped me and asked if it was a sonar
device. We got into a conversation and one of the fellows knew enough
about photography to understand what was happening. We talked about
the usual stuff for few minutes - no lens, infinite depth of field,
roll film, multiple exposure. When we were finished, the second guy,
still with a puzzled look on his face, turned to his more
knowledgeable friend and and said, "yeah, but how does it know where
the fish is?"
And for more fun on ice: http://www.artshantyprojects.org. I
photographed the opening using the Blender, but it was so cold that
day that most of the artists had not built their projects yet.
They're promising that one of the ice shanties will be a camera
obsura.
