I use Freestyle's Maco Genius film for a few applications (camera stock,
transparent positives in photogravure), and it's priced at $25.99 for 10
8x10 sheets.

Still not as cheap as paper, but not as bad as you quote, plus it
has big printing advantages over paper negatives. I believe it's made
in Europe, though I don't know under what name it's sold over there. I
think it's only available through Freestyle in the States.

Assuming that you like cyanotype, I'd suggest that you look into
buying the chemicals from a photochemical supplier, as the pricing
seems to be much more favorable than kits. I buy my chemistry from
