Dear Friends,

The coordinating team of the Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day figures
it is about time we passed along an update and let the active
pinholers on this list know what's happening with WPPD preparation.
By the way, the big day is Sunday, April 24, 2005.

The biggest change is that, after more years of dedicated service than
can be expected from anyone, Gregg Kemp is stepping away from the
webmaster role. Tom Persinger, who many of you know as the f295
moderator, is our new webmaster. Gregg's advice to us, and Tom and I
agree, is to rewrite the web site from scratch. This work is
underway.

One thing that has blessed the event for its first four years is that
Gregg has always picked up the cost of hosting the site. Income from
the gift shop and other sources never came close to paying the bills.
To keep the web site and celebrations going, we need to ask folks for
help paying for the web hosting. This will run into several hundred
dollars (US) per year. We've started the process of opening a
Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day bank account to receive donations
and are looking into online contribution capabilities. We'll let you
know as soon as these are established. Then, if you could help keep
WPPD running by making a small donation, that would be truly
appreciated. The donations are voluntary.

The Pinhole Day web site and submitting images to the gallery will
continue to be free. We constantly marvel at the numbers and variety
of people who participate in WPPD; their backgrounds and ages; the
exhibits, celebrations, lectures and classroom participation that all
come together in this quirky, joyous, celebration.

There are other ways to help the WPPD effort. We need folks to help
with publicity; the help is needed throughout the world, but
especially in the U.S. We could use flyers that are downloadable from
the WPPD website, either new flyers or an update to the ones from
2004. Let us know if you can help. Please send an email to
support@pinholeday.org if you can help.

One of the best ways to help celebrate WPPD is to organize an event,
such as a workshop, exhibit or simply a Pinhole Day outing with fellow
enthusiats, or for teachers, registering your classroom as a group
participating in WPPD. In each of the past two years, there have been
over eighty WPPD-related events held throughout the world. Each event
or classroom becomes a WPPD Group. When a WPPD image is uploaded, you
can select the group you are a part of. Then, when viewing the
galleries, you can select the group name from a drop-down list to
create an exhibit of your group's images. As the new web site is
developed, the events listings will be the first section online.
Please send an email to events@pinholeday.org if you have questions or
to let us know about your event.

Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.
