Very nice Hughes and I agree. I'm also a potter and there is nothing like
having your hands in and on the materials. Sometimes my fingerprints are
left behind on areas of the pots and I couldn't do that digitally or with
molds. Each has it's place as a tool of the creative artist. For me I
still love to see that pinhole image appear in the developer tray.
Have a great holiday season all!
Chuck

I think digital is a fabulous tool as one can use
it to push his work and vision farther but on the
other hand, anyone can reproduce any photographic
or paint or whatever effect in a click... How
cheap is this concept of instant art... There are
no more matter, no more grain in the canvas, no
more artist's conception and even no more
imperfections, it's all formatted! Imitation I
think is a drift of digital system... Imagine,
you have a dull picture of your car (example) you
want to enhance. In a menu; you click on "Pinhole
effect" and think: no good for my picture, then
you select "Neorealism effect" and smile, ...your
beautiful car looks like a compression by César.
Then the genius dawns in you and you decide to
combine a mere "Surrealist" with a harsh "Cubist"
effect and just can't describe the ensuing gore...

It's only a matter of choosing the right tool for
the right task. I think digital can produce it's
own artwork or assist another process (as a step
but for example) but a brush stroke will always
be a caress made by a brush with paint on it...

It was the minute of absurdity by Hugues Mertens ;-)
