You might also try laying a clear piece of glass over your neg/transparency.
It doesn't really need to be, and probably shouldn't be, any larger than the
film strip. That way it stays flat to the scan glass and you don't get the
'gapping' that causes Newton's rings. It also eliminates the need for tape.
Even when using a film holder you can occaisionally get some warping of the
film strip, especially in a larger format. Taping a neg/transparency can
also inadvertantly cause this by placing some uneven tension around the
perimeter.
