Just thinking about this abstractly, I can't come up with any
explanation of how one exposure is different from any other exposure,
whether or not there is an image involved. If the total exposure is
sufficient, the exposed area will react with the developer, if the
exposure did not reach the threshhold, it will not. I do not see that
it makes any difference at all when that exposure took place. Is it
not the case that the number of photons is the only variable involved,
regardless of whether they came all at once or a few at a time over
many instances?
