Dear All,
Please pardon this small harangue on paper negs. Probably over the
years, you've heard me say some of these things. The premise: the
best paper for negatives was Ilford Multigrade III mat surface RC
paper. Ever since they discontinued it, I've been searching for the
perfect paper for negs when used in cylinder cameras. The search
continues and Joe's experiments with pre-flashing will likely be a big
help in finally reaching the proper conclusion.
That said, when I teach workshops for beginners, and often for my own
use, I use Kodak P-Max Art RC Grade 2 paper. It is the fastest paper
I've found and it does not have the Kodak logo on the back, which
might show through when contact printing. It has a good tonal range;
I haven't tried it with filters or pre-flashing. It makes a good
contact print. It is a little more costly than other RC papers, but
the speed is a big help when teaching newcomers and in not having to
stand around for a long time waiting for an exposure to complete.
Loris, if Kodak P-Max Art RC Grade 2 is available in Turkey, give it a
try.
And do let us know how the Fomaspeed works for you.
Tom

Paul and Aaron, thanks for useful information. Will also try Polymax
(if I
can find it here in Istanbul - me knows nothing about Kodak papers;
I'm an
Ilford/Forte guy myself) I'm about to order some Fomaspeed 412 from
Fotoimpex... Will return with my findings.
Thanks again for great info!
Regards,
Loris.
P.S. The E.I. values you are using are pretty high. I didn't know that
there
are such "fast" papers around (are you using a laser drilled -
calibrated
pinhole?)
