Alternative hole forming

I had some 0.0025" stainless steel shim stock in front
of me the other day, and notwithstanding the fact that
there are better materials, I wanted to try a
hole-forming experiment - I chose 0.8 mm for 8x10.

I took a spring-loaded ('automatic') center punch and
made a dent in the stainless steel. I then rubbed the
stainless steel on 600 grit Silicon Carbide paper
until a hole resulted and there was no burr. Hole was
a little bigger than 0.9 mm. Less spring pressure next
time...

I assume the hole is round if the tip was round.

It might really tear up thin soft foil.
