Well, one thing I did last time, and will do again next time, I taught a
class was to make slides of several different types of pinhole images and
show them to the class as sort of an introduction to the idea that pinhole
photography can be many different things to many different people.

The cards I recieved from the people on this list last winter provided many
examples of different techniques and artistic expression...b+w, color,
panoramic prints, infinate depth of field, altered film planes, multiple
apertures, underwater, portraits, landscapes, moving cameras, moving
subjects, and on and on...from all over the world. Really easy to give an
overview and inspire students to make pinhole photography whatever they
might want.

I'd say a huge part of the allure of pinhole photography for me was the less
than scientific approach to making equipment to get started. A simple light
tight box, a piece of soda can with a pin prick through it and a shutter
made from electrical tape was more than enough to convince me that this was
a medium with room for expression...no "right" or "wrong" approaches, just
expression. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with formulas and more
precise approaches. I'm just saying what apealed to ME.

But whatever you do, Jan, you'll have some students who immediately fall for
pinhole photography, and some who won't necessarilly enjoy it. Some people
like rock music, some like jazz, some like opera. That's just the way we
are (and I'm glad of it).

Good luck, you'll do fine - Jim Blodgett
