I, personally, cannot imagine going digital all the way. However, creating digital negatives has a number of advantages, in my mind. As one who enjoys occasionally working with the alternative processes, this means that I can use the same source to make a silver gelatin and Van Dyke print. Yes, enlarging the negative and developing accordingly is a possibility, but doing this digitally has a real appeal for me. I have all of the tools I need to begin working on this, and I have just recently begun to scratch the surface.
Tube amplifiers have their advantages as well as drawbacks, similar to digital vs. film negatives. I was always able to tell the difference between the old tube Marshall amps and the newer ones (newer meaning 20 years ago <g>), but I also remember carrying a satchel of tubes to gigs just in case.
