camera swap book

Several camera swappers have mentioned that a book at the end of the process
would be kind of
neat, but maybe too expensive.

One alternative is a print on demand book from Cafe Press ( www.cafepress.com
). If you have a
"basic" shop, which limits you to only one of each type of product, there are
no fees.

The book product is done by uploading a .pdf file for the body, and image
files for the covers and
spine.

Pricing depends on the number of pages and format, and you can add a "profit"
on top of that. I'd
have to look up the formula. My book, The Pinhole of Nature, is 7 x 9 inches,
about 80 pagesl,
perfect bound, and the base price is $9.24. (I added $.50 to that so the
listed cost is $9.74) I
understand that that's kind of expensive per book if you're printing a large
run, but for print on
demand is kind of reasonable. I imagine the camera swap book would have to be
a bit bigger and
more pages.

I thought the quality was pretty good, it's what you'd expect out of a good
black and white laser
printer on average bond paper.

In any event, I'm not particularly interested in participating in the camera
swap (my cameras are
about as basic as they come), but I'd be interested in editing and designing
the book. Somebody
else would have to set up a new Cafe Press shop, since I've already got a book
on mine.
