RE: Making pinholes without a darkroom?

I have developed both 35mm film negatives and paper negatives [cut for 35mm
canister pinhole cameras] using a similar method as George describes while
camping and backpacking with the Boy Scouts.

I carry a small bottle of developer and fixer, two empty 35mm canisters with
1 having 1 bump using dab of silicone sealer for developer and 2 bumps for
fixer, a changing bag, an Advantix canister to hole pre-cut film [oval
shaped easy to identify in the bag] and my pinhole canister camera. This
fits in one medium size pocket on the side of my backpack.

I fill the developer canister 1/2 full of pre-mixed developer then in the
changing bag I switch the exposed film into the developer and process. Then
I fill the 2nd canister 1/2 full with fixer and repeat the process. I skip
stop since I am doing a 1 shot process. Spent chemicals are kept in an old
poly water container that clips to the frame of my pack. That way I can
dispose of it properly when I return home. Of course I have to print these
when I return home. I guess I could start thinking of a way to contact
print too? Shouldn't be too hard to keep it simple.
Take Care,
Chuck

<snip> Simply pour developer into the can, close it up, and roll it back
and forth. When done, pour the spent developer into the toilet, pour in
stop, and continue, finally doing the same with the fixer. This is how I
develop from the 35mm film cannister I turned into a pinhole camera.<snip>

Ortho film is no less messy than "regular" film (same development process),
but can be used under darkroom lighting, so if you have problems working in
the dark then that might be an alternative. With a bit of testing, you
might find its contrast to be better in terms of printing cyanotype, though
it may not render the scene as well.

Cheers -

george
