I think the camera swap is a great idea but think a month is too long a
time period as it allows us to put things off to the last minute and get
lazy. Also, some cameras cost a fortune and can be dropped, painted or
aggressed upon, whereas mine cost about $.05 each. Should we have a
limit on the value of a camera..... or carry insurance? Also, I think
we are removing ourselves from the pinhole discussion list when we form
a subgroup - an "insiders group". A lot of what happens during a photo
swap could be discussed on the regular pinhole discussion list and
probably would allow more non participating people to see that we are
having fun, we are getting something in exchange for our efforts and
that they should be participating. Otherwise, I felt that the notes and
activity of the regular pinhole discussion list lagged and became
uninteresting during the last swap, as the most active members were all
communicating in a separate venue. Even members of one group didn't know
what the members of the other groups were doing and we all lost a lot
from that.
Exchanging 144 photos is an overwhelming problem and must be addressed.
But an image on the web is never the same as holding a real honest to
goodness print, now your own possession, made by a human hand, and now
your own possession, and a lot of the beauty of the image is lost in
translation. Maybe a lottery? Other ideas? Jean
