Again, zoneplate, photon sieve and pinhole sieve, all have their origins in
science not in photography, we should really be looking for their equivalent
in different languages in scientific writtings more than in photography
books.

It is. The problem is that in order for a name to be explicit it also has
to be explicitely descriptive of its meaning (IMO) so to describe zone plate
in most of the romance languages (French included, Spanish too) the word
becomes words, complete sentences sometimes. Put it in other way, we
romance language speaking persons talk a lot to say the same thing in other
languages -sometimes- is said with fewer words. That's why when you read
the lyrics of songs in French, Spanish, Italian, etc they are poems, you
read most of the lyrics of English songs, well, they are not. But also,
that's why when the safety instructions are given by the airplane crew,
English speaking instructions take 20 seconds, but French instructiones take
forever, so it seems!! At least here in Canada.

Well, the University of Bordeaux in its website calls it: "plaque de
Fresnel", here is an excerp where they mention that name:

"L'imagerie des éléments-trace de cellules uniques a été réalisée pour la
première fois en utilisant des microsondes à rayons X avec un rayonnement
synchrotron. La résolution atteint 0,5×0,5 µm2 à 7,2keV avec une plaque de
Fresnel et 2×10 µm2 à 14keV avec des lentilles composites réfractives"

A PDF file of the LURE - SOLEIL (Synchrotron research related) call it:
"Zones de Fresnel" in this sentence: "et en utilisant des reseaux
circulaires a zones de fresnel", here is the URL to the PDF:

BTW, both references above are unequivocal of actual "Zone Plates", as non
of the techniques they refer to would be using fresnel lenses like the ones
used in floodlights.

There you have it, 2 more options.
