Hi,
I've found another name for "Fresnel lens" in a
french book: "lentille échelonnée" it could be
translated to "staggered lens" but it's just
another name for the Fresnel focusing lenses used
on floodlight etc...
What we call a zone plate is completely
different. Christophe's definition was ideal,
oeuf corse, but "Réseau zoné de Fresnel" sounds
more or less like a definition.
However I'm looking for a short explicit name.
Zone plate literally translated into french does
not exists in photographic literature (as far as
I know). I assume it's the same problem with
other languages. It's very daring to create a new
noun: for example, I was thinking about
proposing "Sténopé échelonné" (staggered pinhole)
or "Sténopé-Fresnel" (Fresnel pinhole) or just
"Plaque zonée"... Would it be correct, I just
don't know.
It's not that I'm not happy with the name "Zone
plate" but there's maybe a pin-hole in french
vocabulary to fill. It's just about giving an
identification name to this technique.
