In this part of the US, at least, you can buy distilled water in any large
grocery store. I think the issue is that you can never tell what is in your
water at home, might be iron, or sulphur or likely not to be a neutral pH,
etc. Distilled is at least reliable. Another method for getting it is to
find a friend who has a salt water aquarium, and poach some of his reverse
osmosis apparatus water.
