I think a lot of people have had success using parafin wax - can buy it at
the grocery store for canning - its usually melted and added to the top of
the "can" to seal it prior to putting the lid on. (it floats on top I
think)

I beleive it can be melted in a double boiler, though I haven't done it.
I did some experiments waxing with a candle and a heat gun. Worked OK -
but the coating wasn't even.
