OT: print processing question

Hello:

Off Topic question -

I saw a b/w glossy photo today that was a photo of an antique family photo.
It was done in either the 1970's or early 1990's - the owner couldn't
remember.

It had some flaws I told him I would try to identify (by asking by expert
friends on this list).

Some black/grey areas were turning brown or rust-colored, and oddly, only
around the back row of people, who were standing against a light sky
background, there was a metallic speckling when held at the 'right' angle.
Changing viewing position, these spots (looked like small dots made with a
fine point marker) appeared either metallic or rust/brown.

I suspected they were either evidence of an incomplete process (wash
perhaps) or some type of environmental deterioration.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Murray
