I have a couple of questions concerning paper negatives:

Ilford RC VC Multigrade IV with a yellow filter (small piece cut from
the corner of my 00 grade enlarger filter) to provide decent mid-tones
and an ISO 3 to 6 is what I use.

You can also buy small quantities of various papers and experiment to
see what you like best. Fiber paper will give you a more textured
positive.

If you do 4x5 paper negatives and that you have access to a 4x5
enlarger, try blowing up your negative to a larger format and see how
the texture of the paper is blown-up with the negative image.
