Am curious about this response too, as I am making plans to be in Italy in
2003, if anyone speaks fluent Italian, I have a few other phrases I would
like translated as well, if anyone would care to contact me off list ...

Given the nature of terrorism these days, and everyone being somewhat on
guard , I am concerned about placing " boxes "(pinhole cameras ) on the
ground to get a low level view shot , especially with a long cable release .
someone might think its a suicide mission , etc... my thinking is, move very
slowly, very deliberately, and in full , view of everyone . FWIW, theres not
a lot of room on the Ponte Vecchio , so you might want to load your pinhole
stuff, before venturing onto the bridge , making your exposures, then
unloading in a changing bag off/away from the bridge, and then return as
needed . I would stay close to the cameras as there are street urchins
/beggars/Gypsy kids watching very closely to see if stealing a camera is
possible for them , a couple yrs back,in Rome , I saw a an older Japanese
man besieged by the kids as he took out his camera to take just a " tourist
shot' and they had him on the ground, were it not for other tourists coming
to his rescue and chasing off the kids, they would have had the camera in
seconds..
