I made huge "sinks" for a project at work. Four of them each 3 ft wide and 11 ft long, 6 inches deep.
The have been used for 3 or 4 years without any leaking.

I made the sinks out of plywood, but lined them with 1/8 inch PVC sheet plastic. I had the plastic formed
at a shop to a U shape to match the inside of the sink. I then glued on end pieces and drilled drains
holes.

Its fairly easy to form/bend pvc with a heat gun. Its not necessary to get this done at a shop. If
you're interested in this I would try getting a small piece of sheet pvc and see what you can do with it.

To make a good sing with PVC and plywood you would need to plan it out fairly well and counterbore the
plywood where the drain(s) are - form the PVC so it goes below the level of the sink to make a place to
put the drain fittings in so they would be flush with the bottom of the sink.

Once this is done the sink would never have to be painted.
