I've tried it, can't say with much success. I was making a "film holder" for a daguerreotype plate by laminating succesive layers of model airplane plywood, using one of the thinner pieces for the dark slide. it worked OK for the dag because the plate is so "slow', but for film or photographic paper I think you'd need to add felt or something to make the slot more light tight. You'll also need to pay close attention to light tightness around the film holder and at the closed end.

Has anyone tried making their own darkslides? I am thinking of making a 10x8 camera and would like to be able to take more than one photo before returning to the darkroom.
