Hey you all....yeah, Polaroid still markets this tank, I've seen 'em in
Calumet catalogs. I can't help you on the other company, but I have made my
own "poorman's clearing tank", out of an old Yankee sheet film rack (from a
busted daylight tank) and a rubbermaid storage container...the rack is one
of those multiple sized ones that holds up to 12 sheets from 2.25 to 4 inch
widths...I use it for both 665 and 55 negs. The container holds a gallon or
so of liquid, I just fill it up to cover the little sheet rack....I mostly
use water in the bucket, and just keep the negs in there until I get back to
my darkroom, and then I treat them in a mix of Permawash, or I'll do the
sodium sulfite sometimes...I have been able to clear the negs in hypo clear,
permawash or even water...
The Yankee tank is one of those older b&w plastic film developing
tanks....if you look at a picture of the polaroid bucket, the rack that it
has, looks suspiciously close to the yankee one....that Yankee tank is
pretty miserable for actual film developing, so you can find them dirt cheap
in used camera stores...
p.s., I've used plastic zip-lock sandwich bags, or styrofoam cups in the
past as well....just as long as you keep the neg submerged & don't disturb
it too much, you'll be okay...
hope this helps,
KT
