Removing film fom Lisco holder and Van Dyke safety?

Hello:

1) Apparently one learns how, but I had the worst time practicing with a
Lisco 4 x 5 film holder and my very thin film (0.0029").

I quite by accident discovered the film goes in the 'back' (opposite end of
the slide), and can't seem to pick the film out without a whole lot of
fingerprints and colorful language. Maybe use something thin to flip it up
enough to grab it?

2) Perhaps directly to George Smyth, or anyone else, other than keeping
silver nitrate out of your eyes and off your skin, how 'safe' is VanDyke
brown chemistry and how to dispose of it? I realize regional laws may vary,
but if it's categorically toxic and needs specific disposal it would be nice
to know.

Thanks & Happy Holidays
