Flashing

Dear Pinholers,
I found the discussion on using flash interesting. There's an article
in Pinhole Journal Volume 6, issue 2 recommending use of flash
bulbs/cubes on the basis that they were more powerful than most flash
guns. Unfortunately, at least here in the UK, they're no longer
available. I've been thinking about using flash for a series of
portraits and still lifes (?lives) I'm planning. I've converted a
Pentax to pinhole with an aperture of about f200 and a focal length of
about 24 mm. I want to shoot in total darkness against a black
background to emphasize the objects and was wondering how many flashes I
would need in those circumstances? I'll be using a starblitz flashgun
with twin flashes and 35 mm film at 200 asa. Should I use it in
combination with other kinds of lighting and would it be better with a
white background, i.e. less difficult, ?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Regards,
Mark UK
