I've never had a problem with getting a hand check of roll film in a US
airport. I put the film (either in clear cans or NO cans) in a Ziplock bag
in my camera bag, then remove the film and hand it to the security guy while
sending my camera bag and junk through the scanner. In a flight three weeks
ago, where all I carried was my Horizon in a little bag (I was flying to DC
to buy a car and drive it back, no luggage), I let that go through, but for
the first time they all sent all the junk from my pocket through the scanner
(keys, change etc) rather than just handing it through the other side of the
the people scanner. Also, the security folks were checking EVERYthing they
didn't understand, including looking in my fanny pack for my Palm III.<g> In
the past I've had em look in my camera bag, I guess they're not used to
seeing camera bodies and lenses separately.
