Dear Friends,
I also receive around 100 e-mails per day, from many lists, and use to use
the filter features of Outlook, in order to separate them in their proper
folders. The reason I sugested to supress the prefix [pinhole-discussion] is
the fact that it is not necessary to operate the cited feature. Just as an
example, the alt-photo list (alt-photo-process-l@usask.ca), has no prefix on
its messages, making available a much longer line for the subject, and works
perfectly on the filter feature applied.
However, there're other implications on that matter, such as different
programs, all the past using this prefix, the already existing archives,
people who doesn't know how to use the filter feature properly (or just
doesn't want to, what is ok, as far as a freedom exercise), and so on, what
justify the maintenance of the prefix usage. I just didn't realize all that
when I first came with the idea of changing that stablished behavior, but
was just willing to have a longer subject line, so that I could promptly
know what the message was about, without the need to put the cursor over
each line, in order to get it highlighted and extended.
If for so many people it's so important to keep things as it is now, this is
enough reasons not to proceed any changes. And it's ok to me. No need to
promote a storm in a glass of water. Let's keep on topic so.
Ricardo.
