Phil Davis' book, Beyond The Zone System, has instructions for making your own.
If course, if you don't mind working in the dark, you can always cut your own
lengths of PVC tubing and use them as is, after removing the burrs from your
cut.
I would think that making your own wouldn't be as easy as one might think.
Personally, my feeling is that if this is something that you are going to be
using on a regular basis, then it is worthwhile to go the quality route. Just
my two cents.
