For film, I would worry about the developer temp but not so much on the
time. A decent thermometer will take care of that. Get a large container
(like a half gallon) and fill that with water at the temperature you need,
then mix the chemistry from that and develop. (that gives you more than
enough for one shot developer, a prewet tray if you use that, and stop bath
or whatever else you may need to mix) Not sure what your developing time is,
I do TMax 100 in HC110B for 7.5 minutes, you can count that off, or use a
clock. If you get a cheap quartz wall clock, you can fix some glow in the
dark tape to the tips of the minute and second hands, stick a piece on the
12 and on wherever you want to count down from, and you have a darkroom
timer.

|Also, in my bathroom-darkroom I've only dealt with developing RC paper
|negatives and prints. I just made a camera that will use 4x5 film
|backs and
|I'm wondering if I should try using Tri-X film instead of paper. Am I
|correct that I have to develop the film in complete darkness? No safelight
|right? If so, I guess I have to get a better timer and worry more
|about the
|temperature of the developer - so far the developer temp has been way off
|and i've been leaving paper in the developer until it looks right. I guess
|that's out with film, huh?
