Hi,

400 Dollars for what? The body? Body plus one zoom lens? ...

I do not think there are "bad" cameras available now. When you are after a
"consumer" model (not a professional one) you might have a close look on the
accessories (lenses, flash, bellows, div. cables, etc.) that are available,
that you believe maybe useful for you and what these things cost.

Where I live (Germany) Nikon seems to have the largest choice, but not the
cheapest one.

Again, more important than the very camera is the system that you get
married with ... :-)

p.s. I myself have two Minolta bodies. Bought the second one because I
wanted different types of film available simultaneously, and a second Mnolta
because I had some Minolta compatible stuff already, you know ...
