Yes you can use 35mm film. To very quickly do some pinhole images, you
could mount a pinhole instead of your SLR camera's lens. If you have a
opaque body cap, you could mount the pinhole to it, or you could just cut a
round piece of cardboard tape it to the front of the SLR body and mount the
pinhole to the center of that cardboard. Here is a picture of my self-made
