Murray,

There are several inexpensive ways to measure shutter speeds. I made the simple circuit shown in this page: http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/2131/shspeed.html and it works pretty good. The hard part was getting the BPW40, it is made in Europe and seems not to be sold in Canada (couldn't find it in Toronto, anyway). I'd have used an equivalent one but couldn't find BPW40's specs either. Due to the beauty of Internet I ended up trading phototransistors for ZonePlates with an Italian photographer (thx Daniele!), no doubt we now live in a Global-Village.

More ideas can be found here: http://www.smu.edu/~rmonagha/mf/shutterspeed.html

Hope it helps,

Guillermo
