Thanks Mike and others for your comments on my picture. I think we pinholists
are all in one way or another rebelling against the stark reality captured by
lens photography. I like the element of unpredictability of the process in a
world where predictability and repeatability are considered essential
qualities.
I'm never sure how the next picture will turn out which opens up the
possibility of great surprises. With handholding the camera under long
exposure times, there are a lot of rejects on any one film, but I'm slowly
getting better control over this type of images. There is also some color
shifts, perhaps due to reciprocity failure (this was Kodak Portra VC 400) and
I still have to better understand what these long exposures do to colors.
I've enlarged the print to 16x16 and it holds remarkably well. My hunch is
that I could push it to larger sizes without problems. I don't have to worry
about the print losing its sharpness, since it's blurred to begin with...
