Mark,
Bookboard is just heavy cardboard, about 3/32" thick, originally meant
for hard-cover book binding. It offered the structural strength I needed
and was easy to handle and cut.
Since several people have expressed an interest in seeing my camera,
I'll try to post a few pictures soon.
Regarding film plane curvature, I had considered approximating the
Mottweiler design (seems simple enough), but I really do like the
undistorted perspective that a flat film plane provides.
