"falling apart" or morphing into something else? Interesting idea...I've
always figured it was morphing into another image...I always find it
interesting how different artists view/interpret things...
Back in the late 60's, pointeelist(sp?) images became popular. The enlarging
of pinhole images, especially the color ones seemed to merge into that
idea..

Pinhole is also about having the image fall apart. With our pinhole lens we
can't
get as sharp or high of a resolution as a real lens even though we get great
depth
of field. I like to make images without the optimum size pinhole. I like to
play
with different size pinholes, different formats and different enlargement
sizes.
Pinhole doesn't have to stand up to the same criteria as lens photography.
Its
different. For me its about the ghosts of people moving through my images
due to
long exposure times, or the bend of the paper in the camera, or the
incongruity of
the spatial relationships of near and far objects. I try to make my image
fall
apart.
There is an image in Eric Renner's book of Boston, fig 1.22 on page 19 of
the
second edition. Its a contact print from an 8x10 flat plane camera with the
optimum size pinhole. This sharpness is from being optimum size, large
negative,
contact print. If you want sharp, try to keep these things in mind.
