studio photography

Hello everyone,
     I have an old Speedotron Brownline lighting setup and I am interested
in doing some studio photography with my 4x5 Santa Babara pinhole camera.
Could anyone offer some helpful pointers to get me started? With my 35mm, I
can set off the flash with a sync cord but how do I go about doing this
while determining the proper amount of light to use? Do I need to fire the
flash multiple times during the exposure? I would love to hear from anyone
who has experimented in this area. Have a great day.
