RE: New Carbon Printing Website and Forum

I had a look at the new web site forum, which looks great. Well done to all
concerned. I know I have been rather quiet these last few years with regard
to the forum but I have always kept up with the discussions.

Like the forum, my own work on Carbon has been very quiet since completing
my doctorate, because of having a busy public art practice. I am how ever in
the process of building a new dark room at home, specifically customised for
carbon work, so hopefully I will pick up and run with that thread again. I
really do miss it.

I would be delighted to make some contributions but cannot do web
administration as I have my hands rather full. If I can contribute to text,
images etc..from time to time then I would be happy to be guided by Sandy.
As I am in the UK, I can access various English publications and collections
here that may be of use. I have a few original publications by Autotype from
the early part of the 20th Century and late 19th century. If copy right no
longer applies to these early publications, then I could produce some PDF
copies of these to have on the Carbon Web site.

Here are some of the publications that I have and also accessed at the
Science Museum Library in London:

Autotype, The Carbro Process: Trichrome Printing by the Autotype Process,
Brochure No. 970 (London: The Autotype Company, 1929)

Company, The Autotype, Autotype in Relation to Household Art (London: The
Autotype Company, 1881)

Company, The Autotype, First Steps in Autotype Printing (London: The
Autotype Company, 1909)

Sawyer, J R, The Autotype Process: Being A Practical Manual of Instruction
in the Art of Printing in Permanent Pigments with a Notice of the Autotype
Mechanical Process 6th edn (London: The Autotype Company, 1873)

Sawyer, J. R., The A B C Guide to the Making of Autotype Prints in Permanent
Pigments, 5th edn (London: The Autotype Company, 1899)

Science Museum Library, The Rising Sun: The First 100 Years of the Autotype
Company, (London: 1987),

Swan, Joseph Wilson, Photography, England Patent 503 (February 29 1864)

With best wishes

That is great. I want to make sure that Eric is on board so that we
can continue to use this list serve as a mailing address, and to
incorporate the archives into the site. He is the person who kept the
old list alive when it was abandoned and I would like to show my
appreciation to him for doing so.

I will volunteer to add some content in the form of writing and to
contribute some carbon images to the gallery. I will also be willing
to serve as a forum moderator.

As a minimum I would like to see, 1) short history of the carbon
process, 2) brief description of the methods of working the process,
3) gallery for participants to share images, 4) bio of current carbon
printers around the world, 4) a working guide to carbon printing, 5)
links to B&S and other (?)sites that offer carbon printing materials,
6) bibliography of carbo literature.

More ideas once the site falls into place.
