  Witho,

Thanks and a good season to you and your family.

Melody and I are back from Carlsbad NM and enjoyed our two day stay. One
of the local restaurants has a display case dedicated to the local high
school's sports teams. The team is known as the Cavemen. Kinda fits.

We've been down before and hadn't planned on going down again but it was
Christmas Eve and we were just hanging out so decided to go again. It's
still impressive down there. I talked to Bob Shlaer, the daguerreoytypist at
Russ Young's (Soft focus lenses, APIS 2003) Xmas party and he said he had
taken a couple of Dags down there a few years back. He had to lug car
batteries down for lighting. Strobe and bulbs don't work. He said he
"rented" the cavern for the evening. The "rent" was he had to pay the
elevator operator and two ranger's salaries at time and a half. Said he was
amazed at the low salaries they make.

He said early photographers used flash powder and the magnesium oxides
left over caused lots of damage.

  To all,

A happy holiday season. Just now heading off to Carlsbad, NM. The kids are
off the Pac coast for the holidays so Mel and I are going south to the
Pecos
  for a few days.

If and when I ever finish my carbon book you will all see a big hat tip to
this forum. Also to others here who have been a great help to me through
my
  4+ years of adventure.

Thanks to Howard, Sandy and Vaughn -- especially!

Well, I want to wish all of you fellows a very Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year, or Happy Holidays or what.

I am pretty excited about the vacation. My wife and I will be meeting
up tomorrow in eastern Tennessee for a few days of celebration with
close relatives from parts far and wide, including some folks we have
not seen in more than two decades.

Probably won't have much to say on the forum for a while, but my best
  to all of you.
