Okay, I sent the pict files offlist.

This is a very good idea, I have had both inspiration and good practical
solutions from a lot of these old books and sources. And yes the
Gutenberg project had last time i checked only one book in this genre.

Beeing able to search would be very usefull, while I prefer paper when
reading. Normal science fiction is fine on my Palm, but once the fiction
part is removed paper is better to drag into the lab.

These books are often far more practical and explain things on a level
that a normal photography student can understand, compared with todays
scientific reports. Even if it might be a bit difficult to drop by your
local tinman or to get hold of an "ordinary india rubber wringing roller
machine."

Herschel (?) did discover the light sensitivity of platinum by covering
the samples with rose leaves. That experiment is today written like "the
spectral response was investigated with a shimadsu double beam uv
spechtrometer" a sentence which would have ment nothing to me a few
years ago (while I still was a photographer). Not to mention the poetic
aspects.

While of course all to its purpose, they help with basic understanding
sometimes. The errors can be funny too.

You probably know this, but Arno Press made a reprint serial of a lot of
these books called "The Literature of Photography" in 1973. Ayer
Publishing have a web page ( http://www.ayerpub.com/Default.asp ) where
they offer new reprints of these book, I tried to order some, but was
told that they needed at least 10 orders for one book to reprint it.
Those web pages are not entierly operational either. This is 6 months
ago and are still waiting.

are generally very busy, but could maybe scan a few pages now and then...

I definitely think Kosar should be online, but that might involve
copyrigth trouble.
